Welcome back to the Slugs & Bugs Blog!

Below are the scriptures that have made the melodic cut so far for the new Slugs & Bugs CD.  I’m hoping to have 5 or 6 more in the end.

The Old Testament (books of the Bible)

Proverbs 3:5-6
Trust in the Lord with all your heart
and lean not on your own understanding;
in all your ways acknowledge him,
and he will direct your path.

Luke 12:35-36
Be dressed, ready for service and keep your lamps burning,
Like servants waiting for their master to return from a wedding banquet,
So that when he comes and knocks they can immediately open the door for him.
It will be good for those servants whose master finds them watching when he comes.
Truly I tell you,
He will dress himself to serve,
He will have them recline at the table
And will come and wait on them.

2 Peter 1:3-4
His divine power has given us everything we need for life and godliness
Through our knowledge of him who called us by his own glory and goodness.
Through these he has given us his very great and precious promises,
So that through them you may participate in the divine nature,
And escape the corruption of the world caused by evil desires.

Deuteronomy 6:5
You shall love the Lord your God

Matthew 7:3-5

Psalm 1

Mark 8
Jesus and his disciples went on to the villages around Caesarea.
Along the way he asked them, “Who do people say I am?”
They said, “Some say John the Baptist; some say Elijah; others say a prophet.”
“What about you?” he asked them. “Who do you say I am?”

Peter answered Jesus, “You are the Christ.”

Jesus told his disciples “Don’t breathe a word of this to anyone.”
He then began explaining things to them
He said “The Son of Man must suffer many things, be rejected by the elders, priests and the teachers,
He must be killed and after three days rise again.

Peter rebuked Jesus,

Jesus turned to Peter. He said “Get behind me, Satan!”
“You do not have in mind the things of God, but the things of men.”

Then he called the crowd to him along with his disciples and said: “Whoever wants to be my disciple must deny themselves and take up their cross and follow me. For whoever wants to save their life will lose it, but whoever loses their life for me and for the gospel will save it. What good is it for someone to gain the whole world, yet forfeit their soul?

1 John 3:16
This is how we know what love is
Jesus Christ laid down his life for us
And we ought to lay down our lives
For our brothers and sisters

Romans 8:1-2
Therefore, there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ,
Because through Christ Jesus the law of the Spirit who gives life has set you free
From the law of sin and death.

1 Corinthians 13:1-2, 4-8a
If I speak in the tongues of men or of angels,
But have not love, I am only a nosiy gong or a clanging cymbal.
If I have the gift of prophecy and can fathom all mysteries and all knowledge,
And if I have a faith that can move mountains, but have not love, I am nothing.
Love is patient, love is kind.

It is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs.  
Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth.
It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.
Love never fails.

Psalm 25

To you O Lord, I lift up my soul
In you I trust, O my God
Do not let me be put to shame
Let not my enemies triumph over me
For all whose hope is in you
Will never be put to shame

Psalm 139:23,24
Search me O God, and know my heart
Test me and know my anxious thoughts
See if there is any offensive way in me
And lead me in the way everlasting

1 John 1:9
If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just

Ephesians 3:14-21

Surely the arm of the Lord

Am I missing your favorite verse?  Maybe it proved too tough a nut for me to crack.  Or maybe I missed it or you haven’t shared it yet.  Feel free to keep the suggestions coming.  Whatever the eventual title of this CD, it will be Volume One, so I’ll get to it eventually. Stay tuned!

    So excited that my young kiddos will get to hear and know the songs! Go, Mr. Goodgame!

  2. i recently was pointed to zephaniah 3:17 and have fallen in love with this promise.
    Zephaniah 3:17 The Voice (VOICE)
    The Eternal your God is standing right here among you,
    and He is the champion who will rescue you.
    He will joyfully celebrate over you;
    He will rest in His love for you; He will joyfully sing because of you

  3. Psalm 139:9-10 My husband, two kids, and I moved from Virginia to Singapore Fall 2012. I’ve used this verse a lot with our kids to remind them that no matter where we are, God’s there. Love the whole 139 Chapter, actually, Slowly getting it memorized (kid are 4 and 2).
