Slugs and Bugs Hidden Track!!!

July 9, 2010

Over the years since we released Slugs and Bugs and Lullabies, Andrew and I have received countless emails from parents and comments at shows about how much folks love the record, which tracks are their favorites and what a nice gift S&B&L makes for new parents.

What we almost never hear is… “We found the hidden track!”

The truth is, I heard about it so seldom that I had forgotten all about it till 2 years ago when my sister-in-law asked me about it on a visit to Houston.  She had stumbled upon it while the boys (at the time, 6 year old twins) were in the car, and they made her play it over and over and over again, each time to a deluge of cackles from their matching car seats.

I don’t know why I haven’t posted about it till now, but now is as good a time as any, I suppose.  So… if you want to hear the hidden track, put your CD into the player, and press rewind. The hidden track is just before “Stop,” (track #1). If you received the record digitally, you don’t have access to it.

As you and your kids discover the track, let us know their reactions!  And if you already knew all about it, and this is old news to you, let us know how long it was before you found it!  I love those stories.

We found the hidden track pretty early on – kids love it. The thing that is weird for us is that it only plays on one or our cd players – the one in the living room. So, when my son listens to it at bedtime in his room, or we listen to it in the car, we don’t hear it. And then we forget about it until one of the kids asks to play it while we are in the living room. Then, it’s like re-discovering an old friend. They love it!

Randall- (this is Shane’s wife, Jennifer from near Memphis. You did that show at our tiny church a few years back). Anyway- my son Coleman listens to Slugs and Bugs EVERY night while going to bed. Has done so since it first came out. We had NO idea there was a hidden track! I just ran in his room and we found it! Too funny- he’s in there giggling again now. What a treat.

Looking forward to a new S&B cd as well as some Goodgame goodness. Hope that we eventually get another venue here to host you again!

    Peace to you!

I can’t believe I didn’t know about this. The only other cd I’ve ever heard of that had this was a Johnny Q Public disc way back in the day.

How does one rip a track to mp3 that has negative time?

We must have listened to that cd hundreds of times, and I only found out about the hidden track from this post. The kids giggled quite a bit when they heard it and of course wanted to hear it again and again.

We just found it after some friends of our told us about it…and we’ve been listening to the CD for…years. The thing is, I don’t let our children touch the CDs and only one is allowed to operate the player…Yup, I know…and we’ve still had to replace the slugs and bugs CD from so much use.
Oh, and LOVE the Christmas album. Can’t wait to see what you guys come up with next.

So, I know this post is a year old. And we’ve had the CD for, oh, probably 3 years now. Never even had a clue!
